PSDS Worthing Theatres and Museum

On behalf of Worthing and Adur Councils, we carried out fabric repairs and replaced windows in the buildings of the Connaught Theatre, Worthing Theatres, Assembly Halls and Museum. Secondary glazing was installed to improve energy and efficiency to the existing timber windows in the Assembly Hall and Worthing Museum. Failing windows in the Connaught Theatre and Studio were replaced with double glazing.

The site was primarily an external one, spread across various sites in the centre of Worthing. We safely erected scaffolding to access the works above live public areas by means of agreed risk and method statements.

We carried out sensitive joinery repairs to internal timber frames and sills together with heritage repairs to external window lintels and timber sub frames. Prior to installation we repaired and redecorated the internal face of the windows to be secondary glazed /double glazed. We also installed draught proofing on internal doors.

We replaced a significant number of existing timber windows and existing Crittall steel windows strictly in accordance with the listed building requirements. We also repaired and redecorated the external fabric of the existing buildings.

Connaught Theatre is a Grade II listed building and remained open whilst the works progressed, but the Museum and Art Gallery were temporarily closed for the project. We were given a limited shutdown period to complete the work.

The works are primarily funded through the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme and were part of a wider project connecting buildings to the Worthing Heat Network a pioneering low-carbon scheme that will bring sustainable heating to the borough.
