Princess Royal Hospital Haywards Heath – Toilet Refurbishment

Client: Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust
Architect: Crowther Associates
Value: £353,096.00
Programme: 28 weeks

The existing public toilet facilities in the Main Entrance at Princess Royal Hospital were outdated and poorly ventilated.

Pilbeam were tasked with carrying out a two-stage design and build toilet refurbishment for Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

We created a space ready for a ‘Changing Places’ fit out . The old plaster room was converted into female WC’s and the existing female WC’s were redesigned as men’s WC’s. Additionally, the disabled WC was extended and the existing men’s WC’s were converted into a combined disabled WC and baby changing facility.

The works were carried out in a live hospital, requiring the installation of temporary public toilets just outside the main entrance whilst the majority of work was undertaken. Access to corridor areas remained live and Pilbeam’s team worked on these areas overnight to avoid disruption.

Complete new M&E Services were introduced including a ventilation system that has transformed the area into a pleasant environment
