Initially, a competitively tendered project for Littlehampton and Rustington Housing Society that required significant negotiation.
Our works involved demolition of an existing hall and launderette / office facility and the construction of a new Cross-Laminated Timber framed Hall and Launderette and a traditionally constructed block of 3 flats.
Extensive groundworks were required to provide a new rainwater drainage system. The external envelope is clad with a mixture of special brick panelling, with stonework to support entrances and a zinc roof.
The site is split in two locations and the construction process required careful liaison with adjacent elderly residents.
The CLT element was a Contractors Design Portion that necessitated particularly early Contractor involvement to ensure that all services were accounted for prior to a design sign-off process; many weeks before the frame was delivered to site.
The project has been nominated for a Sussex Heritage Award.
