Pilbeam Construction designed, manufactured and installed a new lightweight roof walkway system at Frimley Park Hospital, creating safer access for maintenance teams across the RAAC-affected roof.
The £800,000 project included the removal and adaptation of existing walkways, adjustment of building services and phased installation of new walkway sections across multiple roof zones. A Fibre Reinforced Polymer system was used for the walkway beams, platforms and handrails, reducing the weight placed on the existing roof structure while providing a designated load-bearing access route. Working within a busy, live hospital environment, Pilbeam carefully managed access, material movements and the installation programme to avoid disruption to healthcare professionals and patients. The project commenced in December 2025 and was completed in May 2026.
