M&E: Pope Consulting
Engineer: Archibald Shaw
Value: £500,000
Programme: 26 Weeks

This project required the a re-ordering of the church, including a new stone floor at a higher level; new underfloor heating and boiler installation, with new gas supply; new electrical installation and lighting; new a/v installation; new teapoint with associated drainage at west end of south aisle; reorganising of existing vestries and associated spaces.

A new extension was added using existing flint and stonework by specialist stone masons. This extension provides an accessible WC and extra storage facilities. The moving of the church clock, upgrading of the security system, overhaul of the organ and works to the bell was also carried out.

“The completion of the Building Project at the Parish Church of St Peter and St Paul, Rustington in 2016 represented the realisation of a process that began for us in 2003. The vision was to provide a warm, aesthetically pleasing, flexible space in a way which would be sympathetic to the church being a Grade 2 Listed Building. Members of the Church’s Buildings Group found in Pilbeam a willing and capable partner, who related well to the Architect and who – due to their experience gained from work carried out on other churches – were greatly reassuring to work with at a time of considerable upheaval for the parish community.”
