This project comprised a two-storey extension to the existing sports hall to provide girl’s changing facilities at ground floor and a fitness studio at first floor.
The new building was erected on existing foundations, which required repair, and additional new work. The structure was a steel framed construction with traditional brick and blockwork infill panels. Timber floor joists were used at first floor as a means of providing pliancy to the floor for users of the gym.
The timber roof covering is a single ply membrane and includes a number of roof lights which, combined with the full-height windows at first floor level, provide a large element of natural light to the gym. Externally, the extension has a modern feel with lignacite block panels and aluminum doors and windows.
