Alterations to Elm Grove First School, Worthing
|Client:||West Sussex County Council|
|M & E:||John Packer Associates|
The deconstruction of existing prefabricated classrooms to allow for the construction of five new classrooms at the rear of the main school buildings. The contract also included internal alterations to the reception and administration facilities and the provision of new DDA compliant access ramps. The construction comprised traditional foundations with a steel frame work and masonry infill panels. Internal partitions were constructed in timber stud.
The use of lightweight Decra Stratos roof tiles minimised roof loadings and enabled the use of lightweight roof trusses. The combination of the tight confines of the school grounds and the construction area required careful planning and co-ordination with the school to ensure safe access for all.
